Bellevue Bullies #2

Things are heating up for the Sinclair boys! With one already in the NHL, Jayden Sinclair is hoping to be next!

This has been the toughest year of my life. I watched my brother go into the draft without me, my mom got divorced, and the weight of my family’s issues is heavy on my shoulders. I feel like it’s my job to fix everything while working my butt off in school and trying to make my game better. I have to go into the draft. It will give my family the support they need, and it will prove that I’m good enough. But to get there, I have to show I can be the best captain for the Bellevue Bullies. The spot is mine—no one can take it. First though, Jude is making me go on a brother’s weekend. Innocent enough, I guess…until I see her. She’s the biggest competitor I’ve ever faced. Not only for my spot but also my heart. It’s hard to ignore someone like Baylor Moore.

***

I don’t lose. I can’t. My dad has bred me to be the best in anything I do. I am driven, I am smart, and I am going to be the first woman in the National Hockey League. No two ways about it. I’ve worked too hard. I’ve been through too much not to have what I want. I know I can do it. I will make my dad proud, and no one will stand in the way of that. That is, until I let him in. He scares me. He makes me feel. And he could very well be the one person who can make me want more than just to win.

We both have the same goal. Victory. But how do you compete against the person you want to win? It’s not easy. Love isn’t something you can control. It isn’t like a puck that can be handled by a stick. No, it has a mind of its own and does what it wants.

Neither of us saw it coming, and we really don’t know if there is a way to score, especially when you’re being Clipped by Love.

Excerpt

“Today for our team-building exercise, we are gonna run this five-mile course.”
Immediately people are groaning. Apparently, I’m not the only one who hates to run. He blows his whistle, and everyone snaps their mouths shut as Dad goes on, “I believe that running is not only great for your endurance but also it’s good for building a team. The whole no person left behind is something I live by. Push your brothers and sister, help them to finish, and remember this isn’t a race.”
Dad may say that, but when I glance up at Jayden, I see it in his eyes.
This is a race.
And he’s going down.
“We are to finish as a team. Don’t let me see someone finish by themselves,” he says and everyone nods. Blowing his whistle, he waves us off. “And go!”
I meet Jayden’s gaze, and then we are glaring at each other as we start to walk with the team to the start of the trail.
“Wager?”
I scoff. “You mean, what you’re gonna give me when I win?”
He nods dumbly at me before sarcastically saying, “Oh yeah, sure.”
“You’re carrying an extra fifty pounds easy. You can’t beat me.”
“Try me, princess.”
Glaring, because I’ve decided that is the most degrading thing you can call me, I say, “Fine, I win, you gotta buy me a big bottle of mustard for the house.”
Scrunching his face up in a perplexed look, he says, “Mustard?”
“Yes, it’s a favorite.”
He shakes his head. “Fine, but thankfully, I won’t have to give up the five bucks. But you will have to admit one thing to me that you would never admit to anyone else.”
Eyeing him, I ask, “Say what?”
He grins, his teeth flashing in the sun as he covers his eyes with a pair of Ray-Bans. “When I win, you have to admit something to me. Pretty cut-and-dried, Moore. Or what, are you too scared to do such a thing?”

That's a Lie by Victoria Klahr

That's a Lie Cover

Victoria Klahr will be on tour April 20-27 with her novel That's a Lie Seth is back.
When he walked back into my life, it almost felt like the pieces of my broken heart could be fixed. I thought we could go back to being best friends, but then I started to feel what I had been blocking out for years. I tried. Boy, did I try! But once I started to let him in, I wanted nothing more than to cross that line from friendship into something more… Just when I think I can move on and let myself be happy, an ugly reminder from my past comes storming in and threatens to destroy the sliver of hope that’s been growing since Seth came back. Do I even deserve to be loved? “I’m not asking to fix your heart. I’m not asking to mend you. I love each and every shattered piece of you. I’m asking that you let me love you. Let me love each piece of your broken heart, and I swear to you I will make up for every heartache you have ever experienced.” I came back for Josie. I knew I’d have to fight for her, but with the loss of her dad and the truth about what happened with her and Blake, I quickly realized that making her mine was going to be a lot harder than I first thought. The problem is, I can’t pretend like she’s just my best friend. I can’t pretend I don’t want more. I’m willing to do anything to get her to admit she has the same passionate feelings for me, because I know once she opens up and stops lying to herself, I can show her what it really means to be loved. It’s a battle of wills, but my love for her is stronger than her will to stop me. So I fight for her. I fight because I know she deserves it.

Book Spotlight for Fierce Awakenings

An oppressed werewolf princess…

In a world where the werewolf species is rapidly declining, breeding the strongest of the purebred bloodlines is of the utmost importance. But when Victoria Bonvalet is ordered by her alpha father to partake in this breeding program, she rebels by fleeing her home and the protection of the pack.

Though she has never fallen in love, Victoria refuses to mate with someone she doesn’t even know and commit her lifecycle to someone with defective genes, which could ultimately be passed down to her own children. Though she expects to be found eventually, she plans to hide and run until that happens. What she never expects is the attraction she would feel for a one thousand year old vampire lord with a thirst for adventure.

A vampire with nothing to lose…

Tristan Garland has traveled the world, fought in wars, and encountered many enemies over the years he has existed as a vampire, but even his experience as an undead could not have prepared him for the deep magnetism that lures him to his newest neighbor. Though she’s a werewolf, and by law his enemy, Tristan finds in Victoria the desire to continue existing in a world he’s come to loath over the years.

Enemies in the eyes of their own kind but hopelessly in love, Victoria and Tristan must find a way to be together without causing a war between bitter adversaries. But will their refusal to part ways provoke their kinds into a conflict unlike any they had seen before?

Book Excerpt:
“Who were they and why were you so afraid to face them?” She better tell him the truth, because so help him, he would force it out of her if she didn’t.
The second he spoke he could tell she was struggling with some inner demons. Even when he hadn’t read her mind, Tristan could tell she was trying to come up with something rational to say.
“I haven’t read your mind since you asked me not to, but if you don’t tell me why you nearly crawled out of your skin when you realized they were coming, I will,” he warned, making it clear that he meant business. “You recognized them?”
It was more of a statement than a question and they both knew it.
“They’re members of the pack I belong to.”
Tristan was angry, but for the life of him he couldn’t even begin to understand why. Her attitude irritated him, and the truth she was trying so urgently to hide annoyed him because he didn’t know what it was. And he wanted to know. He needed to know.
He was utterly annoyed that he cared so damn much, he wanted to kick himself in the balls. But when it came to Victoria, he just couldn’t find it in his heart to keep himself from getting involved.
“I…they…” Her hesitation only forced his anger up a notch. Why couldn’t she just tell him the truth? What was she so afraid of?
He narrowed his eyes at her evasiveness.
“Damn it,” she forced out, looking directly at him. “I ran away from my pack.”
“I know that already. What I want to know is why you left,” he practically growled, his frustration finally rearing its ugly head. “What are you running away from?”
"A few days ago my father informed I was to be mated to an alpha from another pack.” She paused briefly, observing his reaction, trying to determine what it would be. “I just couldn’t take the pressure, so I fled.”
The news of her impending mating didn’t surprise him. In fact, he half expected her to say something like that. However, that still didn’t quite explain what she was running away from.
“Why would your father ask you to sacrifice yourself?” he pried, hoping to get to the bottom of things once and for all.
Victoria sighed heavily, and closed her eyes. There was no way he was letting her off the hook. She had started pouring out the truth in small scoops and he wasn’t about to let her stop now.
“My father didn’t ask, he demanded, and he did so because he’s the alpha.”

Cost of Survival, Book #1

COSfront

Anger isn’t an emotion anymore, it’s more of a survival mode I can’t afford to let go.
My dad predicted World War III would happen in his life, but he died two years before… with my brother…
…before Mom and I walked in search of refuge from the bombing.
Strengthened by her faith, Mom never feels alone. But me? I don’t know what to believe or where to turn. Someone once said keep your friends close and your enemies closer, but I disagree. Friends scare me the most. They know me and my mom. Nothing about them is safe.
The ones in charge… Control everything…
Crud, I’ve started crying because I’m scared I won’t survive World War III. But a bigger part of me is scared I will.
My mom is bleeding in my arms and she’s making me promise to follow her three rules.
Pray. Don’t trust anyone. Stay alive.
How long do I need to break all three?

Exchange Rate, Book #2

exchangerate

I’m pregnant and I couldn’t be more excited. But the community Bodey, his dad, and I live in has rules. Rules that make Mom’s rules seem like safety nets.
Only 200 people are allowed at a time. My baby will make it 201.
The leader is making me choose someone from our house to die so there will be room for my child. Either I make the decision or they take… my…
Even in the craziness that the world has become, I refuse to believe only 200 can live in it at once.
The “community” is safe-ish, comfortable. We have food, warmth, and there isn’t immediate danger of being robbed while we sleep.
Doesn’t it make sense we’d have to exchange something for all that?
I’ve survived this long. Maybe that’s enough. Maybe I should die so my family can live. Or maybe I can get through the lines and find a people worth sacrificing for.

Worth of Souls, Book #3

WOSfront

Running for my life and six months pregnant, I’m terrified but confident in my decisions. With my love and family behind me, captured by the same man who chases me, I have only a small window to find help. The baby needs to come out eventually.Nobody said the end of the world would define people so much. Everywhere I turn I have to prove my worth.Mom was gone before I learned my value lay in my eyes. Not others. But how would that save Bodey? How could my worth change how the world me spins? If I can’t figure it out, everyone I love will die, trapped in a place where even following the rules won’t protect us.

Review for The Unholy by Paul DeBlassie

http://www.virtualauthorbooktours.com/?p=4053

Publisher: Sunstone Press (October, 2013) Category: New Age Fiction/Metaphysical Thriller, Paranormal Thriller Tour Date: April & May 2015 Available in: Print & ebook, 203 Pages
Winner of the 2014 International Book Award and the Pinnacle Achievement Award!
A young curandera, a medicine woman, intent on uncovering the secrets of her past is forced into a life-and-death battle against an evil Archbishop. Set in the mystic land of Aztlan, "The Unholy" is a novel of destiny as healer and slayer. Native lore of dreams and visions, shape changing, and natural magic work to spin a neo-gothic web in which sadness and mystery lure the unsuspecting into a twilight realm of discovery and decision.

Praise for 'The Unholy' by Paul DeBlassie III:

Paul DeBlassie III

"The imagery throughout is amazing and I love the writing style. The plot kept me engaged throughout and the backstory is intricate and makes you think. This is a relatively quick read but I would suggest starting when you’ve got time to invest. Because you won’t want to put it down once you pick it up!"-Shana, The Bookie Monster "The mystical novel, ‘The Unholy’ by Paul DeBlassie III is jam packed with native folklore, dreams and magic coming from all directions, which lead to the sadness and mystery that lures Claire, the heroine of the story, into a realm of discovery. The narrative of this book is fast paced and easy to read. Claire is a strong female character, who has to not only fight against others, but also herself. There are so many components that made this novel unique, such as the setting of Aztlan, the Native American beliefs, religion, magic, and the overwhelming dark forces present. Paul DeBlassie III succeeds at telling a riveting story with an inventive narrative that carefully intertwines cultural and romantic elements into the good vs. evil fight, which pulsates throughout all the pages of the book."-Red City Review

NewPinnacleAward3D2

"The theme of the novel is pretty basic, good vs. evil. But the author takes that theme, twists it around, comes up with intriguing characters who often walk the balance between right and wrong, and takes things to a whole new level. There’s action, suspense, a hint of romance, and definitely enough darkness to share around in this book. The writing style is very descriptive, almost poetic. Intruiging."- Majanka, I Heart Reading
"A new take on the classic good versus evil, The Unholy is well written and will leave you wanting more. I was intrigued by the native lore that was used to develop the story, and also on how strong of a hold the Archbishop has on the people of the town – his fear and power is overwhelming. I really enjoyed the story and how the characters prepared for what was to come."-Tracee, Review From Here
"This is really a very good read but I have to warn you it’s really dark. It reminded me of watching a movie where it is overcast, gloomy, a bit foggy and there are crows and ravens around. Well this had all that plus a psychiatric hospital, ancient and mystical powers, a cult, and unknown forces at work. There is a sinister feeling that hangs over you as you read through this captivating story. It is really well written and so vivid, I had such a clear sense of where this all took place. The characters were very well done. The evil person is really dark and warped and creepy. As I said this is quite a dark story but it is well told and a really good read. The very first chapter draws you into this story and will keep you reading to see whether good or evil wins. I definitely recommend it."-Maggie Thom,
Author of 'The Caspian Wine Series'

My review:
Warning: No spoilers ahead.
The Unholy is a novel with just the right amount of darkness yet its subtle enough to make it a very entertaining read. I found myself connecting with Claire, and enjoyed reading about her struggles to accept who she is and how she manages to transition throughout the book.
A battle between good vs evil with enough twist and turns to keep you guessing from beginning to end. Suspenseful and intriguing, it will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time.
