Do you have a favorite movie? which of your novels can you imagine made into

a movie?

Favorite movie would be Ben Hur, the original one. My favorite line, “We keep you alive to serve this ship, so row well and live.”

After that, I’m a big fan of a film called The Hunter with Willem Dafoe. I love The Chronicles of Riddick with Vin Disel. I think it is a film that is vastly underrated and on my blog I’m slowly teasing out some of the beautiful elements of that film. The Visitor is a great one to watch. Amazing Grace about William Wilberforce is also a favorite. Glory with Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman is one that I can watch over and over again. There’s a scene before they storm the fort which Matthew Broderick’s character looks over the water and watches a flock of birds fly graceful over the calm waves capturing this wonderful moment of zen before marching into the hell of war. I’m embarrassed to say, but I love the Small Soldiers. It does a great job of raising question about artificial intelligence, the moral obligations with regard to sentience, and the dangers of commodifying things like war.

Every writer sees their book as a movie. If it ever does happen for me, I’ll eat a hot pepper and horseradish wrapped in cheddar cheese while singing “Let it Go.” My writing style is more visual so I run through scenes in my head visually but I try to be careful not to write screenplays.
